CRTF Seeking Public’s Assistance In

Relation to Multi-Kilo Cocaine Seizure

CORNWALL ONTARIO – On the afternoon of August 12, 2015, while on marine patrol in the Bainsville area of the St. Lawrence River, the Cornwall Regional Task Force’s (CRTF) marine unit observed a large grey boat, occupied by two individuals, traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed.

This boat was followed to the center of the river near a channel marker where it met with an 18 foot Lund fishing boat occupied by one individual.  An exchange of suitcases occurred between the boats.

When the marine unit moved in to investigate, all three males departed westbound at a high rate of speed in the grey boat, leaving the Lund boat adrift.  The suspect boat was followed westbound at a distance and the assistance of the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service (AMPS) was requested.  The grey boat was followed into a marshy area located north of Simard Island and east of Yellow Island, where two suitcases containing 47 kilograms of cocaine were retrieved from the weed beds.

The suspect boat is described as a pleasure craft style, possibly a Doral or Champion make; painted flat grey; completely hollowed out with exception of one captain chair and powered by two white Evinrude 300 horsepower outboard motors.

CRTF members assisted by the AMPS marine unit continued their search of the area in an attempt of locating the suspect vessel. It is believed it continued west into US waters via the St. Regis River.

The abandoned Lund boat was retrieved and seized by police for its involvement in this drug transaction.

The CRTF are continuing to investigate this crime in an effort in identifying those involved and bringing them to justice.

“The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service’s officers work tirelessly to reduce the amount of harmful drugs reaching Akwesasne.  This is another example of how the Police Service works effectively with area agencies to keep drugs out of our communities”, stated Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service Chief of Police Jerry Swamp.

“A cocaine seizure of this magnitude represents a major disruption to criminal organizations involved and has prevented a significant amount of drugs from reaching our streets”, stated Insp. Steve Ethier, OIC of the CRTF.

Community Development a Tribal Priority

AKWESASNE —  In step with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s strategic planning, community development is at the forefront of Tribal Council’s actions. The SRMT is seeking sovereign jurisdiction and authority over a unique parcel of land that is designed to host infrastructure initiatives that bring connectivity, sustainable energy sources and construction resources together, serving the territory and bridging the digital divide in broadband capabilities throughout the North Country.  Building a future for the community includes impacting the local and regional economy through business relationships, planning and infrastructure and sustainable revenue capacity. Chief Eric Thompson explains the growth initiatives, “Our tribally owned broadband enterprise, Mohawk Networks, LLC, erected an FCC approved 400’ tower that enables our wireless, high-speed Internet technology to expand services off territory through our subsidiary, North Country Broadband. The Tribe’s new Planning and Infrastructure building is under construction and the $2.6M investment will be completed in April 2017.”

Chief Ron LaFrance commented on a project underway by the Akwesasne Housing Authority to construct a solar farm on land that is included in the trust application, “The AHA’s Go Solar initiative is exactly the type of clean energy project we need to be spear-heading, not only in our community, but in our region.” Under the land in trust process, this property will become part of the reservation and under tribal control and will be exempt from state taxes and regulations.

Chief Beverly Cook stated, “The benefits of a negotiated settlement are not insignificant to Franklin County. It is our hope that the Legislature moves forward with a vote to proceed to a long-awaited settlement. But, in the absence of an agreement, we have a duty to our people to expand our territory and return land to its rightful ownership. The projects we have underway are exciting for our region; they’re creating jobs, impacting the economy through increased connectivity and redefining power sources that are kind to our environment.”

Akwesasne Lawyer CLIFFORD SUNDAY Suspended by LSUC 072417

Cornwall Ontario – Clifford Sunday’s career as a lawyer may be over.  As of this story it’s been suspended.   The former Iron Worker who speaks Mohawk and put himself through law school did not respond to this story. His phone number has a no service recording.  At one point he had been counsel for the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne.

His office was on Second Street in Cornwall, Ontario.

.

Mr. Sunday was fined and suspended after not responding to the investigation about the quality of service he provided.

It’s similar to what happened with financial planner Gilles Latour who initially didn’t cooperate with his investigation  by the CMA.

Telling your regulator that they don’t have authority over you certainly is rarely a productive tactic.

Apparently Mr. Sunday can attempt to be reinstated if  he pays his penalties and complies with the LSUC investigation.

Should Canada Build A Wall & Bill President Trump Personally? By Jamie Gilcig 081917

Cornwall Ontario – As NAV Can gets filled at the taxpayer’s expense as I type these words I think it’s time to maybe consider building a wall in this region between the US and Canada and send the bill to US President Donald Trump.

Now I don’t mean to send to the bill to the US government.  After all Americans are our friends and neighbors.  It’s not their fault for what’s happening.  It doesn’t make sense for Canadians to be footing the bill for a tweet happy President, does it?

This morning I watched a family of refugees nabbed by Akwesasne Police as I was driving to visit the US.   I have a hunch they were on their way to NAV Can before I got back to Cornwall.  This might disturb City Councilor Bernadette Clement’s hen parties at NAV Can or some of the other local clique activities.  The only land area in this region is through the border crossing.  There is easy water access which smugglers have been taking advantage of for years.

It seems utterly insane as these are not Syrian refugees.  Most are fleeing the US; not war torn areas being bombed.   For far too many this is a fiscal refugee situation.   As bad for example as things are in Haiti, and I sure wouldn’t want to live there, I can’t think of any reason to grant immediate asylum, simply because they like our Canadian system and fear the American system over political rhetoric.

Last week a  local University educated gentlemen of reasonably good repute was concerned that the end of the World was nigh over North Korea, which was utter nonsense.   Because of trade issues between the US and China, North Korea makes like the barking dog and pony act that it does so often.

Does anyone believe that China would want or allow a potential nuclear war on its borders?   It’s politics.

So why are we here in Canada paying the bill for the US president’s antics and politics?  Isn’t it bad enough Americans have to?

Don’t misunderstand me.   I tend to not mix into other countries politics.  If I don’t have a vote then I shouldn’t have a say.   I may not agree with other country’s decisions, ; but I am a Canadian citizen and Canada is where I live.

These so called refugees and asylum seekers are simply taking advantage of political mayhem at Canadian taxpayer expense.

So maybe a wall isn’t a bad idea?   Akwesasne is known as a smuggler’s alley, but the traffic is usually the other way.

By crossing over from the US they’re closer to NAV Can which is offering nicer digs than some of the ones being used in Quebec.   Also, many of the refugees want to move to Ontario and not Quebec so it makes sense to cross over here.

It’s not like the US is letting people walk through their customs crossing onto the island.   Their services are far too professional for that kind of behavior.

Canada is an extremely generous country.   We open our doors to many legitimate refugees and should continue to, but fiscal refugees from the US are abusing our good nature and pocketbooks and that’s something that our government should  be nice about.   I’m not sure putting up refugees in hotels is the route to take?  I’m not sure five year waiting lists are the way to go for people that clearly seem to be queue jumping.

As I write this piece the more I’m liking the idea of building a fence and sending the bill to one of President Trump’s companies….
